Born
and raised in Paris, Marie is a third generation jewelry dealer. Her
interest in Russian decorative arts began as a teenager while living
on the grounds of Hillwood Museum, home of the late Grande Dame of
Russian collectors, Marjorie Merriweather Post.
In the antiques business for close to twenty five
years, Marie began her career as Gemologist and Head of Christie's
Russian Department in America. After ten years at Christie’s,
Marie started her own company and opened a store on East 56th Street
in New York. The Marie E. Betteley Collection of Tsarist Memorabilia
and Fabergé has been featured in both retail and museum venues
in New York City, and in Wilmington Delaware, in conjunction with the blockbuster exhibition Nicholas and Alexandra.
Today, Marie is a regular exhibitor in New York and in occasional shows around the country.
As appraiser, auction consultant, graduate gemologist
(GIA) and lecturer, Marie E. Betteley is also happy to provide selected
Appraisal and Lecture Services. Please Email
